Deadlocked 6 Deadlocked Series eBook AR Wise

AR Wise takes the characters (and the "family" he has created) into extremely different territories than perhaps I expected, but something rings very true about the dynamics between them all. Keep in mind that a lot of time has passed since Deadlocked 1 and that the characters have had to endure a hellish existence. To expect them to be in a rosey place is naive at best.
Their world is a world of struggle. We get to learn the ways of the High Rollers and get a taste of how they have evolved in a militaristic order of sorts. We get to taste the internal skirmishes between our main characters and it seems like everyone has been "mixed up" or at odds with everyone around them in one way or another. In the Roller society, our characters hold ranks and responsibilities to the survival of the group, yet they struggle with their own family relationships in the same mix.
At the same time, the author moves the "Deadlocked universe" forward and we get more detail of the underlying plan that started the whole story. By the end of this book, several of the reader's "why" questions will be answered... but, a few more questions will sprout from those answers. However, you will get the sense that everything is reaching a critical mass and even the new questions will be addressed. There is PLENTY of zombie action and a few new science twists on both the zombies and the plan. You'll like what the author has done there.
Mr. Wise took a chance with a different writing style/mechanism in this book by switching back and forth between different characters from chapter to chapter and it works nicely. It does a couple of things for us, the readers. First, it makes the pace very interesting and at some points it keeps the action moving and you taste some of the frantic nature of that action. Secondly, most of the important dynamics in the storyline are between two characters, exclusively... usually, two of our original "family". This back-and-forth switching lets us analyze the same event from the two perspectives involved. It sometimes feels like you are rewinding the story a few pages, but once you understand what the author is doing and you get comfortable with it you realize how it gives you a great sense of just what the heck is going on from each character's point of view. At a particular point (that I won't reveal to not be a spoiler), it will hit you at just how poignant it is to know the two very different perspectives. Finally, one of the greatest things that AR Wise does is to let the character dialogue tell the story. By doing this character switching, you just get a richer, more complete story.
If you are a fan of the series, you MUST read this book. This is, by far, the most mature installment of the series and the dark places the characters are in seems like the logical evolution. You'll be hungry for more when you reach the last page!
If you have not read the series at all and you are curious, download the first Deadlocked and get caught up! You NEED to get to this book!

Deadlocked 6 Deadlocked Series eBook AR Wise Reviews

Let me first start off by saying I love these books. A.R. Wise is a great storyteller. I have read this entire series in about two weeks time. Now for a little constructive criticism...this book (6) was great up until the "mind merger" part. Up to this point the book felt realistic (as much as zombie book can be realistic). I can see a terrorist attack causing the collapse of society whether it be through chemical warfare, economic collapse, etc. But when you start throwing some real sci-fi in there it takes away from the "realistic" elements. I can even see the reasoning behind The Electorates reasoning behind doing what they did. Global warming, the never-ending war in the middle east, economic instability...with all these things, who doesn't want a better world to live in. History is full of people that thought their way was the right way. Killing 6.5 billion people may just accomplish what your seeking. However, for A.R. Wise to go with the "mind merger" thing is a stretch. This was something I wasn't prepared for. Which, when you think about, is what every author should be striving for...keeping their readers guessing. Wise has certainly done that for me. It will be very interesting to see where this story goes next. Like I said...I loved this book as well as all the others but throwing a twist in there had certainly kept my interest piqued. Keep them coming Mr. Wise...
I'm going to go ahead and give a 5/5 now because I KNOW it'll be nothing short of amazing. I'm just about to purchase this book. Anyone and everyone that hasn't read this series go buy it NOW! You're missing out! A note to the author please, please keep putting stuff out after you finish this series. I'm pretty sure I'll buy whatever you put out. I can't believe how attached I've become to these books but they are simply amazing. Also, thank you for being so detailed and lengthy with your books. A lot of other *well-known at that* authors that add detail or filler to their books are so annoying that I literally have to skip twenty pages. Not yours. I want to read every single word. You are above and beyond talented.

Have a nice day!

Edit.
I'm back, and I'm done reading the book. I need more, now! Can't wait for the next one. )
This review is a long time in the making. Partially because work has been busy but also because I really wanted to take my time with the story this time. I started the series with #1 and was hooked because of the unique writing style and continued on to read the rest of the books. This one particularly since it came out after I had finished all of the others kept me waiting impatiently, but I can't say without any hesitation that it wasn't worth the wait.

I have personally toyed with writing many times over the years and while in High School & College but have never had the time to refocus my energy. Reading these books gives me the hope and comfort to know that anyone with a REALLY good story and REALLY SKILLED at keeping the readers happy and gripped can live the dream. So with that I say thank you Aaron for daring to dream. I love your stories and the way you have cleverly challenged classical writing style for something that makes it possible to tell a different kind of story.

*#*#*#*#*#*# SPOILERS BELOW *#*#*#*#*#*#*

I am so glad that you didn't kill Ben in 5. I really wanted his arc to continue and I really appreciate the way that you engaged realism by not having him pop right back into action. I know it had to be hard to end the book the way that it did but this really worked, even though it was difficult. Also the plot was not fully revealed by the foreshadowing which I loved!

I can't wait to read the next one! THANKS!
